VOCO donates 20,000 euros to Doctors Without Borders
Company News
The total donation to the aid organisation grows to 100,000 euros

“Donating rather than giving” is the motto again this year at the dental manufacturer VOCO. As in previous years, the family-run company is foregoing Christmas presents and cards for customers and business partners and is instead once again donating 20,000 euros to the international aid organisation Doctors Without Borders. This is the 5th time in a row that the company has taken part in the “Company Christmas Donation” campaign, bringing the total amount donated to 100,000 euros. Doctors Without Borders provides medical aid worldwide in crisis and war zones and following natural disasters. The organisation was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999 for this work.

“The suffering in many parts of the globe deeply affects us. It is therefore a real affair of the heart for us to help people in need. We hope our donation will make a small contribution to alleviate misery and save lives”, says Olaf Sauerbier, Managing Director of VOCO.

No emergency assistance without donation

The employees of Doctors Without Borders – such as doctors, nursing staff, midwives and logistics specialist – are active worldwide. They treat sick and wounded people, take care of malnourished children or provide clean water and latrines. Doctors Without Borders work without state funding, so that only private donations make emergency aid possible.

“We are delighted with the generous donation of 20,000 euros from VOCO”, says Parnian Parvanta, chairwoman of Doctors Without Borders. “As a gynaecologist, I have seen time and again during my missions that births become a life-threatening situation due to a lack of medical care. It is often the little things that help effectively: an ultrasound device for diagnostics, sterile material such as scissors, needles and thread or bandages. We are active in more than 70 countries worldwide. It’s great to know that companies like VOCO have been at our side for years.”

(Neu)

User of Miicraft printers now benefit from even more choice and flexibility: With the validation of V-Print c&b temp for the production of highly aesthetic temporaries is now the tenth member of the V-Print family compatible with the high-resolution DLP printers. In order to reach this optimal compatibility, devices and materials undergo an extensive process. The paramenter are optimised until strict internal targets are reached.

The materials of the V-Print family can be used in many ways – from production of models, transparent splints, also thermoflexible, temporaries and denture bases as well as individual trays and try-in specimens for prosthetics through to sterilisable surgical guides for navigated implantology.

V-Print printing materials: flexible and reliable… without shaking!

„With our first class printing materials, we support the solution orientated workflow in the surgeries and laboratories. Especially practical is that all our printing resins are dimensionally stable and don’t have to be shaken which saves time and energy“, said Dr. Axel Bernecker, VOCO’s marketing director. Therefore, the printing process can start immediately and runs reliable from the first to the last layer.

Own research and development

The product development at VOCO is done exclusively by an interdisciplinary research team consisting of dental technicians, chemists and dental engineers who take their practical experiences as a yardstick for their daily work. The result are reliable printing materials with a real added value and support for the users from the first pouring till the finalisation in the digital workflow.

Apart from the MiiCraft printerns, our V-Print printing resins are compatible with lots of other high quality printers. You can find an updated overview of all our printing partners for V-Print printing materials online.

New cooperation: Validated digital workflow with VOCO and SHINING 3D Dental
Product News

Thanks to a new cooperation between the dental material manufacturer VOCO and SHINING 3D Dental, a supplier of fully integrated 3D dental solutions, it is now possible to print the printing materials of the V-Print family on the AccuFab-L4D. The FabCure 2 post-curing unit from SHINING 3D Dental is also optimally compatible with a range of V-Print materials. This new cooperation sees the VOCO system partners joined by another great producer, allowing practices and dental laboratories to benefit from an attractive selection.

“From models and surgical guides to splints and denture bases right up to the production of temporary crowns and bridges: the V-Print printing resins have an extensive range of applications covered. In use, they impress with both maximum precision and true added value in handling,” said Dr. Axel Bernecker, Head of Marketing at VOCO. All V-Print printing materials are sedimentation-stable and do not need to be shaken well before use. In addition, fillers and dyes settle neither in the bottle nor during the printing process. “In combination with a first-class printer like the AccuFab-L4D and the FabCure 2 post-curing unit from SHINING 3D Dental, outstanding results are practically guaranteed,” continued Dr. Axel Bernecker.

Optimally adapted – for printed objects of the highest quality

The prerequisite for accurate results is the compatibility of the resin and printer. Until this is the case, the equipment and materials go through an extensive validation process with numerous tests and adaptions. This sees the parameters changed until strict, internal targets for printing results are met. The AccuFab-L4D delivers a high level of precision and surface quality as standard. In addition, it was also possible to validate the post-exposure with the FabCure 2 for a variety of V-Print printing materials.

New: V-Print c&b temp for (long-term) temporaries

V-Print c&b temp, the tenth member of the V-Print family, was presented at the IDS in Cologne: the highly filled composite can be used to produce temporary restorations in the digital workflow. The material is even indicated for multi-unit bridges and long-term temporaries. The additive production technique here allows almost infinite design possibilities compared with the subtractive alternative in particular. The translucency and natural fluorescence of V-Print c&b temp exceed all aesthetic demands placed on a temporary restoration. In addition, the material can be customised and polished with ease.

Product News
With V-Print c&b temp, VOCO is offering a practical solution for the manufacture

With its latest material development, the Cuxhaven-based dental material manufacturer VOCO is expanding both the use of the additive production technique and the V-Print family portfolio: with V-Print c&b temp, VOCO is offering a practical solution for the manufacture of even multi-unit temporary restorations in complex prosthetic treatment in the digital workflow.

In the scope of a total temporary rehabilitation, digital designs mean patients can be involved from even before treatment begins. The restoration is planned, designed and visualised digitally – with predictable results for both the dentist and the patient. The additive production technique allows almost infinite design possibilities compared with the subtractive alternative. Patients receive durable temporary work with a high accuracy of fit before the final restoration is produced.

Highly filled composite with great flexibility

Temporaries made of V-Print c&b temp are restorations with expanded possibilities such as individual characterisation, simple repair if needed and shape adjustments with composite in the course of the treatment. The high surface quality allows simple processing and polishing. The translucency and natural fluorescence of V-Print c&b temp exceed all aesthetic demands placed on a temporary restoration. V-Print c&b temp is a highly filled composite in medical device class IIa. The first-class physical properties such as high flexural strength (132 MPa), low abrasion (119 µm) and low water absorption (18 µg/mm³) make V-Print c&b temp ideal for long-term temporaries too, as confirmed by our laboratory tests.

Grandio disc multicolor: Aesthetically pleasing restorations at the push of a button
Product News
For particularly aesthetically pleasing restorations, VOCO is offering with Gran

Long-term restorations should be reliably stable and simultaneously satisfy high requirements as far as a natural look that appeals to the patient is concerned. Digital prosthetics impress with first-class results, as even the minutest of details can be processed with the assistance of computers. For particularly aesthetically pleasing restorations, VOCO is offering with Grandio disc multicolor a new product complementing the existing shades of the nano-ceramic hybrid material Grandio disc. The multicolor version imitates the colour gradient of natural teeth from the incisal edge to the tooth neck – and that with just three layers.

The special composition of the material reflects and absorbs light to create the particularly intense chameleon effect, which allows the individual layers of the restoration to transition into each other and produces a highly aesthetic colour gradient. The optical adaption to the neighbouring teeth and the overall aesthetic appearance also benefit from this effect.

Invisible layer technology

The restorative is divided into three layers: one for the incisal area, one for the basic tooth colour (dentine layer) and one for the cervical area. The colouring of Grandio disc multicolor makes the restoration look very vital, which is achieved with just these three layers due to the material properties (invisible layer technology). When developing Grandio disc multicolor, special importance was attached to remaining in the original shade family (e.g., A1 HT, A2 HT) of the Grandio disc (monocolor) so as to ensure that all products can be combined. The VITA® shade system was choosen for selection of the correct shade: Grandio disc multicolor is available in the six shades A1, A2, A3, A3.5, B1 and C2. The designated shade is the middle layer (basic tooth colour). Restorations made from Grandio disc multicolor imitate the natural colour gradient of the tooth from the incisal edge to the tooth neck even without individualisation.

Indications

Just like the monochromatic version, Grandio disc multicolor has a thickness of 15 mm and a diameter of 98 mm. It is indicated for the manufacture of single-tooth restorations such as crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers and implant-retained crowns.

About Grandio disc

The completely polymerised Grandio blocs/disc products set new standards with their far superior material strength: with a filler content of 86%, the material is the most highly filled in its class. The biaxial flexural strength also achieves values which are normally only associated with silicate ceramics, but Grandio blocs/disc is significantly more antagonist-friendly.

The material can be milled very finely and is easy to polish, allowing the restoration both to fit perfectly and to meet high aesthetic demands. With Grandio blocs/disc it is possible to manufacture restorations which have very thin walls and are yet stable, such as veneers, which additionally protects the dental hard tissue. When nanoceramic hybrid materials are used, there is no need for the time-consuming firing process.

The discs are processed in the milling devices in the same way as the Grandio disc in the monochromatic LT‑and HT shades. An overview of our numerous trusted partners can be found here

AlignerFlow LC – optimised workflow thanks to fluorescence
Product News
With the new AlignerFlow LC, VOCO is offering a specially developed composite wh

Modern aligner therapy is opening up completely new treatment options in dental and orthodontic practices. The use of attachments expands the range of corrections for dysgnathia and their success rates. The precise fit and shape of the attachments are fundamental to the success of the treatment. With the new AlignerFlow LC, VOCO is offering a specially developed composite which fluoresces under UV-A light and optimises the attachment workflow from production through to removal. VOCO’s 20 years of experience from millions of successfully applied flowable nano-hybrid composites has been incorporated into the design of AlignerFlow LC.

AlignerFlow LC offers outstanding adaption in the template splint, high stability and high abrasion resistance as well as fluorescence. It is this fluorescence, which only becomes visible under UV-A light, that allows precise control of any excess material and artefacts right from the manufacture of the attachments. Once the treatment is complete, attachments must be removed without leaving any material behind in order to avoid discolourations and patient complaints. To this end, even the smallest residual amounts of AlignerFlow LC can be rendered visible under UV-A light. This allows quick and uncomplicated removal of the attachments leaving the enamel untouched.

Thanks to the specially adjusted flowability of AlignerFlow LC, the template splint can be filled precisely. This enables an exact shaping of the attachment, e.g. even with undercuts. Excess material, which impedes the exact positioning of the template and thus the attachments, can be detected and avoided, as can deficits, which lead to an inadequate bond between the attachments and the tooth surface.  After bonding and light polymerisation directly through the transparent template, attachments made from AlignerFlow LC therefore shows highest adhesion values and durability. At a light output of 1,000 mW/cm2, the composite cures within just 10 seconds.

Reliable force application

Due to a filler content of 83% by weight, attachments made of AlignerFlow LC display high stability and abrasion resistance. As a result, the force application of the aligner splints is transferred entirely from the attachment to the teeth throughout the complete treatment. AlignerFlow LC is always processed with a dentine enamel bond.

“AlignerFlow LC represents a milestone in the dynamically growing market of aligner therapy,” said Dr. Axel Bernecker, Head of Marketing at VOCO. “It offers dentists and orthodontists a more efficient and precise means of successfully administering aligner therapy, which in turn translates to higher patient satisfaction. We are delighted to be introducing this new product and seeing the positive effects it will have on the aligner market.”

Alongside the manufacture of aligner attachments, AlignerFlow LC can also be used for occlusal build-ups – in the injectable technique – as well as for luting of lingual retainers. AlignerFlow LC is available in 2 x 2 g syringes in the tooth shades A1, A2 and A3 including accessories. The application tips supplied (diameters 0.9 mm and 1.2 mm) support personal handling preferences, but they can also be used for particularly fine attachments and the more extensive application of lingual retainers.

Admira Fusion 5 – Simplified shade system through Cluster-Shades
Product News
With the new universal composite Admira Fusion 5, it is now possible to cover al

The correct determination of the tooth shade is the key for an aesthetic result of the restoration. Finding the optimal shade is often not that easy. One of the most common methods to define the tooth shade is the use of shade guides. Compared to the variety of shades that a natural tooth has, a shade guide can only show a limited colour spectrum, which can lead to an incorrect shade selection. VOCO has therefore set itself the goal of offering dentists a state-of-the-art universal filling material that extremely simplifies daily practice. The solution: The further development of the innovative, purely ceramic-based ORMOCER® filling material Admira Fusion. With the new universal composite Admira Fusion 5, it is now possible to cover all VITA® classical shades with just five Cluster-Shades.

New and patented resin matrix

Admira Fusion 5 uses five different Cluster-Shades, each of which bundles several VITA® classical shades. The so-called Cluster-Shade-System is enabled by the new patented resin matrix, which has been adapted to the size and optical properties of the nano-hybrid particles, which results in optimised light scattering. The result: a targeted and enhanced chameleon effect within the respective Cluster-Shade, which allows the filling material to perfectly match the natural tooth shade. Thanks to this simplified shade system, dental practices are optimally positioned for all cases in their daily practice with only five shades and can thus significantly slim down their inventory. There is no need for multi-colour layering or the use of an additional blocker or opaquer. By optimising the resin matrix, it has also been possible to significantly reduce the light-curing time: For all five shades, a polymerisation of only 10 seconds is necessary. This saves valuable time.

Proven ORMOCER® technology

With Admira Fusion 5, dentists benefit from the advantages of the proven technology of the high-performance composite Admira Fusion. The innovative combination of nano-hybrid and ORMOCER® technology, in which both fillers and resin matrix are based on silicon oxide, enables a purely ceramic-based material. Due to the ORMOCER®s (Organically Modified Ceramics) used, Admira Fusion 5 is highly biocompatible, as it does not contain any classic monomers. In addition, the material has by far the lowest polymerisation shrinkage of 1.25 % by volume and an associated extremely low shrinkage stress compared to all conventional restorative composites.

In extensive tests, the easy handling was rated particularly positively. The material can be modelled very well and does not stick to the instrument. In addition, Admira Fusion 5 is compatible with all conventional bondings and is available in both syringes and caps.

The multi-talent for models in laboratory and practice: VOCO’s V-print model 2.0
Product News

From working and presentation models to models for thermoforming technique: With V-Print model 2.0, high-quality models of modern dental technology can be produced quickly and precisely using additive manufacturing. V-Print model 2.0 can be printed in high layer thicknesses and scores with the highest surface quality and precise processability.

Fast and precise

Even with layer thicknesses of 100 µm, models made of V‑Print model 2.0 have very high accuracy, as heatmap analyses prove. The high layer thickness also ensures time savings: Print twice as fast with 100 μm as opposed to 50 μm and without forfeiting precision. The scratch-resistant and dimensionally stable surface allows reliable fitting of the restoration on the printed model, even in the area of edges.

Models for the thermoforming technique – for aligners or retainers

In addition to working and presentation models, V-Print model 2.0 can be used to digitally produce aligner or retainer models. This again saves time compared to the conventional fabrication of the splints. A material change and thus a vat exchange is not necessary.

Practical use

In addition to the technical performance parameters, V-Print model 2.0 is also convincing in terms of handling: The beige-coloured matt models are particularly practical for prosthetic work. The strong contrast enables the best possible optical control of the restorations on cores.

Like all materials of the V-Print family, V-Print model 2.0 can be grinded precisely without chipping and with good chip formation. The instruments remain clean without smearing.

All V-Print materials, including V-Print model 2.0, are immediately ready for printing and do not have to be shaken up. No nitrogen is required for post-exposure, which not only supports occupational safety but also contributes to further process optimisation.

V-Print model 2.0 is available in 1.000 g bottles under REF 6128. For more information about the product click here

International summit at VOCO
Event News
The Fellows traveled to Cuxhaven from almost 30 countries. Olaf Sauerbier, Managing Director VOCO Keynote Speaker Dr Miguel Stanley from Portugal Event manager Dr Matthias Mehring (VOCO) gave a live demonstration on the import Panel discussions after the talks During the breaks, the Fellows received further information about the products. Tour of premises

Lectures at the highest level, demanding discussions on current topics and trends about modern dentistry, as well as personal exchange between colleagues from around the world: This is what the “VOCO International Fellowship Symposium” has stood for many years. For the fifth event, 50 dentists from almost 30 countries again accepted the invitation of the Dentalists from Cuxhaven to further intensify the dialog between the manufacturer and the dental practice.

The focus of the three-day event with more than 30 lectures was in particular on processes and issues relating to conventional restorative and innovative digital dentistry. Furthermore, topics like fabrication of endocrowns as well as updates on MIH (Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation) were focal points. In diversified lectures, the Fellows presented their current clinical cases as well as solutions and treatment methods. Numerous questions from the audience proved the high relevance of the topics presented, so that the dental experts took home ideas and new approaches. At the same time, the presentations offered the VOCO team important feedback on the products used.

Dr Miguel Stanley as keynote speaker

In his lecture “New boundaries of Dentistry”, keynote speaker Dr Miguel Stanley from Portugal spoke about how healthy and aesthetic teeth can change an entire life. The founder and clinical director of the world-renowned White Clinic in Lisbon prefers digital options, which offer a wide range of possibilities. At the same time, the founder of the Slow Dentistry movement puts a consistent focus on individual, high quality and stress-free treatments for the patients. He allowed the audience to share his wealth of experience and revealed many tips and tricks, so that the lecture was not only technically demanding, but also very entertaining.

YouTube project from the UK

Also Dr Mike Gow from the UK values new technologies: The dentist and clinical director of the dental anxiety treatment department at Berkeley Clinic in Glasgow has been using the YouTube video channel for several years to present clinical cases, products and treatments. In his lecture “InterDental-TV for presenting video dental case studies”, he presented the procedure and benefit and thus promoted new ways of communication.

Look behind the scenes: The development of the thermoviscous composite VisCalor

Beside the lectures of the Fellows, also the host contributed informative speeches. Colleagues of the research and development department gave a deep insight into the creation of VisCalor under the motto “The secret behind thermo-viscous-composites”. The highlight of the material: It is flowable after warming and then cools down, so it is immediately sculptable. Event manager Dr Matthias Mehring also joined the ranks of speakers and gave a live demonstration on the importance of the polymerisation lamp.

Intensive dialog between industry and practice

The programme of lectures was rounded off by intensive “Round-Table” discussions, in which the developers and market strategists from VOCO exchanged information with the dentists about their clinical experiences and current questions regarding desirable innovations. “The close and trustful exchange with the dental clinic is indispensable for us as manufacturer: This is the only way we know the needs of everyday clinical practice and can specifically consider them in product development”, states Dr Matthias Mehring.

Experts’ opinions on VisCalor and VisCalor bulk
Product News

Heat, flow, sculpt - done!? With VisCalor and VisCalor bulk, VOCO has launched the world's first composite with thermo-viscous technology. And the highlight: The material has a low viscosity after extraoral heating and can be applied like a flowable. It flows optimally onto cavity walls and undercuts. It then cools down to body temperature and can be sculpted like a classic packable composite.

Brochure with clinical reports

But how does this new technology work in everyday practice? Is a single filling material really all that is required? And what about functionality, stability and aesthetics? Eleven dentists from seven countries have documented their experiences in words and images. Read in our brochure "Case documentation on the first composite with thermally controlled viscosity behaviour - VisCalor / VisCalor bulk" how the material was used in different clinical situations, how it behaves when handled and which results it produces. Well-known authors like Prof. Dr. Jürgen Manhart (Germany), Dr. Walter Denner (Germany), Dr. Miguel Stanley (Portugal) or Dr. Marcelo Balsamo (Brazil) have contributed examples.

VisCalor vs. VisCalor bulk

While the bulk-fill variant VisCalor bulk focuses on simple and quick posterior restorations, VisCalor additionally allows for very aesthetic anterior restorations, thanks to its wide range of VITA shades, which include a supplementary translucent shade. This material is compatible with all conventional bonding materials.

The handy SingleDose Cap makes application particularly hygienic. Thanks to the long and slim cannula, the material can also be directly applied in hard-to-reach areas and narrow cavities, and application is bubble-free, which contributes to the longevity of the restoration. Durability and stability of the material result from its excellent physical properties: With a filler content of 83% by weight and a very low shrinkage rate of only 1.4% by volume, VisCalor exhibits above-average values in this respect.

The Caps Warmer is particularly suitable for heating VisCalor, as it heats up to four caps simultaneously within a short time. This is particularly advantageous when working in several increments or with several shades. In combination with VisCalor bulk, the VisCalor Dispenser is the ideal device to use. Quickly, easily and with only one tool, the composite caps can be heated and then applied immediately.

VOCO Christmas donation: 20,000 euros for Doctors Without Borders
Company News
Again this year VOCO supports the international humanitarian aid organisation Do

Again this year the dental material manufacturer VOCO follows the proven motto “donating rather than giving” and supports the international humanitarian aid organisation Doctors Without Borders with 20,000 euros. For the third time in a row, the company from Cuxhaven is partner of the “Corporate Christmas Giving”. Doctors Without Borders is active in over 70 countries and helps people whose lives are in danger due to illnesses, wars or catastrophes. In the past year alone, the teams of the registered organisation carried out 9,900,000 ambulatory and 877,300 emergency treatments.

“The basic health care is still completely inadequate in numerous countries around the world, which has devastating consequences for people. With our donation we would like to contribute to saving lives and reduce sorrow”, says Olaf Sauerbier, Managing Director of VOCO.

“The support of companies like VOCO is very important to us“, says Christian Katzer, Managing Director of Doctors Without Borders in Germany. “The donation is what makes our independent medical emergency aid possible in the first place“. With 20,000 euros, Doctors Without Borders could, for example, provide almost 1,000 malnourished children with therapeutic food for four weeks or immunise 68,000 children against measles.

Study shows: Fluorescent bonding materials optimise the de-bonding of orthodontic brackets significantly
Product News
The study shows: By using VOCO's fluorescent bonding material BrackFix, signific

When removing orthodontic brackets, residuals of the bonding material can cause discolouration and subsequent symptoms. Continuing surface treatment, after complete removal of the bonding material, may result in scratching or other permanent damage to the enamel. A recent study of Farronato et al., carried out on extracted human teeth from participants in a postgraduate class at the University of Milan now shows that even unexperienced users achieve significantly better, more reliable and time-optimised treatment results when a fluorescent bonding material is used for brackets.

For the randomised study, Farronato et al. used 48 human, extracted teeth. One group of orthodontic brackets each was bonded according to the manufacturer instructions with the fluorescent composite BrackFix® (VOCO GmbH, Cuxhaven, Germany), the comparative group with Transbond XT (3M, Saint Paul, MN, USA). After removing the brackets, the residues of the bonding materials were removed using a 12-edged tungsten carbide instrument by participants of a postgraduate class after instruction by experienced orthodontists. The working area was additionally illuminated with an UV lamp (wavelength 360-370 nm) at a maximum distance of 50 cm to the tooth. The evaluation of the cleaning result was finally made in three grades according to the size of the residues and damage of the tooth.

By using VOCO’s fluorescent bonding material BrackFix, significant improvements could be achieved in removal of residues and avoidance of damages towards the comparison group. In sum, the quality class of the work carried out by the largely unexperienced participants was significantly improved by 30 %. Deviations in the achieved quality classes were strongly reduced (the standard deviation was lowered from 0.7 to 0.48). Occasional, completely inadequate removal of residues could even be fully ruled out thanks to the new type of bonding material.

The working times per tooth could also be reduced significantly thanks to the more visible residues of the fluorescent luting composite. With comparably experienced users and a similar degree of complication, the average processing time was halved, at the top the time was even reduced from 234 s to 60 s, which is an additional indicator of improved performance of the new type of bonding material.

The authors therefore come to the very positive conclusion with regard to the use of the fluorescent luting composite BrackFix from VOCO:

“This study suggests that the aid of UV lamps and the use of fluorescent composite might decrease macroscopic composite residuals and visible scratches after de-bonding procedures performed by postgraduate doctors. The de-bonding procedure is faster under the study circumstances.”

VOCO Retraction Paste – a must-have for every practice
Product News
With VOCO Retraction Paste, which is applied directly from the cap into the sulc The paste can be used as an alternative to, or in combination with a retraction

The basis for a perfect impression is an exposed and dry sulcus. With VOCO Retraction Paste, which is applied directly from the cap into the sulcus, VOCO is introducing a product for the effective, temporary opening of the sulcus and its isolation from moisture. This product is also the ideal complement to the V-Posil precision impression material. VOCO Retraction Paste offers the prerequisites for successful classic or digital precision impressions, as well as for cavity preparation of class II or V restorations, but also for either permanent or temporary cementing of restorations.

The retraction paste impresses users not just through its results, but also through its handling: For example, the shade contrasts well against the gingiva, facilitating in particular the work in hard-to-see areas. Thanks to the very slender and slightly flexible cannula, the material can be easily dosed and applied, whereby the paste is easy to press out and subsequently scores points with very good flow viscosity, coupled with uniform stability for opening of the sulcus. During application, the aluminium chloride paste with astringent effect temporarily fills the sulcus, stops any bleeding and eliminates moisture.

Patients themselves also benefit from numerous advantages: For example, VOCO Retraction Paste only requires a short exposure time, it has a neutral taste and can be easily and fully rinsed off.

The paste can be used as an alternative to, or in combination with a retraction thread, for example. It can be used in the classic way or digitally, with an intraoral scanner. Soft tissue management is often the key to success for the resulting class II and V fillings as well as for permanent or temporary cementation of restorations, especially when using the adhesive technique with not very moisture-tolerant products.

Hygienic SingleDose

VOCO Retraction Paste can be applied directly into the sulcus easily and hygienically from the SingleDose Cap, developed in-house by VOCO. The SingleDose Cap is compatible with commercially available composite dispensers such as the VOCO Caps Dispenser, and is sufficient for up to 3 sulci.

Advantages of the SingleDose: each patient receives their very own product, an easy way to avoid the risk of cross-contamination as well as other potential for contamination.

Give your teeth that holiday feeling: VOCO Profluorid Varnish (VPV), the tried-and-tested dental desensitising varnish with fluoride, is now also available in pina colada flavour - summer, sun, sea and beach fun included! The exotic pineapple-coconut flavouring now augments the existing portfolio to seven flavours: melon, mint, cherry, caramel, bubble gum, cola lime and pina colada. The varnish dries in seconds - at the same time it feels natural and has a pleasant taste so that it can be left on the teeth for continuous fluoride release.

VOCO Profluorid Varnish is ideally suited for the treatment of hypersensitive teeth as well as sensitive root surfaces. Treatment with VPV is also a sensible precaution following professional cleaning and polishing, in order to replenish any depleted calcium fluoride depots. The fluoride content is 22,600 ppm fluoride (≙ 5 % sodium fluoride). A good cariostatic effect can be ascribed to the xylitol that is also included.

In addition, the transparent white varnish convinces with its high level of moisture tolerance and excellent adhesion to dental hard tissue. Thus, VPV promotes a confident, fresh smile – even directly after application.

Hygienic SingleDose

Like all the other members of the VPV family, VOCO Profluorid Varnish pina colada is available in the hygienic SingleDose and the 10 ml tube.

Advantages of the SingleDose: It is designed for a single use only – each patient receives their very own product. This is an easy way to avoid the risk of cross-contamination as well as other potential for contamination. Furthermore, the material can be applied quickly and easily from the handy packaging – ideally by using the enclosed brush.

V-Print splint comfort: Light-curing resin for the generative production of thermoflexible therapeutic splints
Product News
A high level of flexibility, longevity and stability, but also workability and t

Whether for bite elevations, whitening treatment or bruxism, dental splints are being used in increasing numbers for various purposes, and the requirements in respect of splint materials must satisfy the wishes of the dental and lab teams as well as those of the patients. A high level of flexibility, longevity and stability, but also workability and transparency, are only a few attributes of V-Print splint comfort.

It is not just that elaborately designed therapeutic splints are manufactured efficiently, reliably and in a reproducible manner in 3D printing processes. Dental technicians also wish for an almost odourless, easy-to-process printing material. Complaints due to chipping, cracks or improper fit are immediately reduced to a minimum thanks to the flexible material properties of V-Print splint comfort. Its inherent memory effect allows for recovery following deformation or heat effects, as may happen with steaming in the lab, for example. The finished splint may be quickly ground and polished in the dental practice, if required. Its high abrasion resistance makes V-Print splint comfort an ideal therapeutic tool for use with occlusal splints.

But also its level of classification as a medical device is relevant in terms of long-term therapy. The classification of V-Print splint comfort as a class IIa medical device allows an unlimited period of wear.

For patients, however, the focus is more on comfortable wear and suitability for daily use. V-Print splint comfort produces very durable, thermoflexible splints that react to heat. The thermoflexible splint nestles against the intraoral tooth structures. It can be comfortably inserted and removed, requiring no effort. As a result of these properties, we obtain a customised splint that fits tension-free, without any bothersome pressing or pulling. Its high transparency makes for an inconspicuous splint and underscores the aesthetic claim of the material. The neutral taste makes it more acceptable for the patient to wear and thus contributes to the success of the therapy. The smoothly polished surfaces are easy to clean for the wearer and are very resistant to discolouration.

With V-Print splint comfort, dental laboratories and practices receive a product that meets all the requirements of splint therapy while achieving highest levels of customer satisfaction. At market launch, V-Print splint comfort is available for Asiga and Rapid Shape printers, alongside the SolFlex printers with PowerVat. You can find a comprehensive, current list of all our printing partners here.

Bifix – VOCO’s luting cement for metal, ceramics and composites – is now also available for luting of hybrid abutments with try-in pastes. As a true all-rounder, Bifix Hybrid Abutment can be used both extraorally in the lab and intraorally in the practice. Its perfect masking of dark backgrounds using highly opaque shades is an absolute plus for highly aesthetic restorations.

Bifix Hybrid Abutment is suitable for abutment crowns, mesostructures, combination restorations, ready-made adhesive or titanium bases, and individual abutments made of titanium, ceramic or zirconium dioxide. Intraoral luting onto dental hard tissue is also an indication. Every luting composite is supplied with a try-in paste in a perfectly matching shade, which simulates the correct optical impression in any film thickness. Thus, for highly aesthetic restorations, it is possible to choose precisely the right shade before permanent luting, something that is not offered by any other similar product. Afterwards, the pastes can easily be rinsed off again with water.

Bifix Hybrid Abutment luting composite is easy to apply from the practical QuickMix syringe, and the enclosed application cannula, which includes a freely rotating attachment, allows highly accurate and thus material-saving application. As a highly radiopaque and dual-curing luting composite, it benefits time management with processing advantages based on light-curing, but it can also be used in areas with no available light (metallic abutments).

The material is offered in the highly opaque white and universal tooth shade variants, plus a translucent variant for ceramic or zirconium dioxide restorations.

The Bifix Hybrid Abutment implant set is supplied including the universal bonding agent Futurabond U (5 x SingleDose - suitable for bonding and all etching procedures on dental hard tissue), and the universal coupling agent Ceramic Bond (5 ml bottle - for conditioning metal, ceramics and composites). Furthermore, all three shades are available in the 10 g QuickMix syringe, including try-in paste and accessories.

VOCO donates 20,000 euros to Doctors Without Borders
Company News
Christian Katzer, Managing Director of Doctors Without Borders Germany, thanks V

This year, the dental manufacturer VOCO is once again foregoing Christmas presents for customers and partners and providing support where help is needed instead: The Dentalists for the second time are partner of the initiative “Corporate Christmas Giving” and donate again 20,000 Euro to Doctors Without Borders. The humanitarian aid organisation is active in around 70 countries worldwide and helps when the national health system is no longer able to help sick and injured people.

“Especially now, help is more urgent than ever before. COVID-19 is particularly devastating for countries that do not have adequate medical care. We thank Doctors Without Borders for their excellent work and are very pleased to contribute the progress and development of projects”, says Olaf Sauerbier, Managing Director of VOCO.

“VOCO’s donation is a great support – especially this year”, says Christian Katzer, Managing Director of Doctors Without Borders Germany. “Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we had to adjust and are adjusting our projects worldwide: rebuilding waiting areas, purchase protective clothing, train personnel and much more. We have also started many new projects to support people in more than 70 countries in the fight against the Coronavirus. We thank you very much for the generous donation.”

Further social engagement

Besides the donation to Doctors Without Borders VOCO throughout the year has made several donations for social purposes. As early as spring, the company supported the county with several hundred litres of disinfectant. In addition, other local organisations such as day care centres, schools, hospice groups or the food bank “Tafel” received help.

V-Print tray: Light-curing resin for the generative production of individual impression trays
Product News
V-Print tray is a class I medical device and is available in the 1,000 gram bott

VOCO continues to expand its portfolio of innovative 3D-printed materials: Thanks to high layer thicknesses, V-Print tray can be used to quickly produce individual impression and functional trays, e. g. for the fabrication of dentures. Further to that, the new member of the V-Print family is perfectly suited for producing bite registrations as well as bases for bite templates and wax try-ins in complete dentures. V-Print tray is a class I medical device and is available in the 1,000 gram bottle. Depending on the size of the jaw, the content of one bottle is enough to print approximately 85 trays.

Ready-made standard trays that do not individually fit patients and do not optimally support the impression-taking process are a thing of the past. Thanks to CAD/CAM technology and the strong material properties of V-Print tray, the practice or laboratory as well as the patient benefit from a result that is precisely adapted to the requirements of the jaw and the impression. The CAD/CAM process allows the fabrication of individual trays, including rim design and retention elements, in a single step. Recesses for the implant impression can be considered in advance when using the CAD software, which is particularly helpful. The high-strength properties of V-Print tray is very strong ensure distortion-free impressions. With layer thicknesses of up to 200 μm, V-Print tray can be printed quickly. Homogeneously printed surfaces enormously reduce the need for reworking, which again saves time. Additionally, V-Print tray is universal, meaning it can be used with all types of impression material.

Like all VOCO V-Print printing materials, V-Print tray is also sedimentation-stable, making it ready for use immediately and securing the production process for the entire duration of use. The use of protective gas is not necessary for post-exposure. This streamlines the workflow and saves both time and money. V-Print tray is neutral in odour and flavour.

System for making a complete denture

The V-Print family also offers the right products for base and try-in: Consequently, the 3D material V-Print dentbase allows the production of optimally precise denture bases for removable dentures. V-Print Try-in is ideally suited for producing try-ins for complete and partial dentures. Those who also use the material for denture teeth CediTEC DT (Denture Teeth) as well as the fixing material CediTEC will obtain the complete denture in a single system thanks to the CAD/CAM procedure.

New flavours: CleanJoy prophylaxis paste now also available in cherry and caramel
Product News
CleanJoy prophylaxis paste from VOCO is now also available in the new flavours c

CleanJoy is now even more fun! The popular tooth cleaning and polishing paste is now also available in the new flavours cherry and caramel. The fresh sweetness of cherries and the creaminess of caramel complement the existing menthol of the mint variety, now offering users and patients a choice of three mouthwatering flavours.

CleanJoy can be used to remove superficial, soft and even hard tooth deposits as well as extrinsic discolourations such as those caused by drinking tea and coffee and smoking. In addition, the paste is ideal for cleaning and polishing tooth surfaces and restorations as part of  a professional scale and polish. The multipurpose product can also be used prior to whitening procedures and after the removal of orthodontic appliances.

CleanJoy is available in three different cleaning strengths, allowing the dentist to tailor the treatment to the respective patient situation, depending on the degree of contamination present. The traffic-light-style colour-coding of the packaging ensures safe use without any confusion of the products:

Red: The red (coarse) paste is used to remove particularly severe and persistent plaque in a manner which is both effective and gentle at the same time.

Yellow: The yellow (medium) paste is used to remove light to medium plaque.

Green: The green (fine) paste is used on patients with light plaque.

Treatment with the red or yellow paste is always followed by a final application of green paste to smooth off the cleaned surfaces and prevent renewed adhesion of particles. The polishing paste also gives the cleaned surfaces an attractive sheen.

Alongside xylitol, CleanJoy contains fluoride (700 ppm) and therefore also contributes to the remineralisation and strengthening of the natural dental hard tissue. It can be used with any conventionally available polishing cup and brush.

Hygienic SingleDose

CleanJoy is available in a 100 g tube as well as in the hygienic SingleDose. Advantages of the SingleDose: The handy SingleDose is designed for one-off use only – thus each patient receives their very own product. This prevents cross-contamination and other possibilities for contamination in a simple and easy way. What is more, the amount is also optimally adjusted for a single application, ensuring no material goes to waste.

Simple, fast and hygienic: the SingleDose from VOCO
Product News
The SingleDose is absolutely hygienic and helps to avoid cross-contamination. VOCO Profluorid Varnish is ideal for treating hypersensitive teeth. The true all-rounder among bonding agents: Futurabond U is suitable for all etch Totally unique: VisCalor bulk combines the advantages of both flowable and sculp

A consistent and seamless hygiene management system is indispensable in every practice. Not only does maximum cleanliness help to protect the patients, dentist and team, but absolute compliance with all requirements is the calling card of every practice. In addition to the implementation of all classic hygiene measures, the right choice of products and packagings can also contribute to boosting the hygiene standards even further.

Take, for example, the SingleDose from VOCO. The wide variety of products available in the handy SingleDose are designed for single use only – each patient receives their very own product. This avoids the risk of cross-contamination and other possibilities for contamination simply and easily.

The advantages of the SingleDose at a glance:

- Absolutely hygienic

- Avoids cross-contamination

- Optimally coordinated quantity for single treatment – no material waste

- Avoids application errors (e.g., incorrect dosage and mixing ratios)

- Quick and easy to apply

VOCO offers a wide variety of products from different indication areas in the SingleDose and, in doing so, supports practices in the optimal implementation of their hygiene management system – for the benefit of the patient, dentist and team alike.

Oral care: VOCO Profluorid Varnish (VPV)

The fluoride-containing varnish for tooth desensitisation is ideal for the treatment of hypersensitive teeth and for sealing the dentine tubules during cavity preparations and in case of sensitive root surfaces. Treatment with VPV is also a sensible prophylactic precaution following cleaning and polishing. VOCO Profluorid Varnish is available in six mouthwatering flavours: Melon, Mint, Cherry, Caramel, Bubble Gum and the new addition Cola Lime.

Bonding agents: Futurabond U

One bonding agent for all cases! The dual-curing universal adhesive is the only bonding agent in a disposable applicator and is suitable for all etching techniques: self-etch, selective-etch and total-etch. As such, all other bonding agents are now superfluous. Applied in a single layer, Futurabond U creates a strong bond to enamel and dentine, thus ensuring a durable, gap-free bond between the dental hard tissue and restorative material.

Composites: VisCalor bulk in a cap

VisCalor bulk is the world’s first restorative material with “thermoviscous technology”, which has been specially developed for heating up. The extraoral warming means that the composite can initially be placed in the cavity in flowable form, but then changes its consistency within a few seconds to become sculptable. As such, the dentist now requires just one composite and no longer has to choose between flowable and packable materials.

V-Print c&b temp – 3D-printed composite temporary work
Product News

VOCO expands cooperation with well-known manufacturer of 3D-printers
Product News
A brand new addition to the list of partners is the company Microlay from Madrid

Whether durable thermoflexible splints, fast printable models for deep-drawing technique or autoclavable dental surgical guides, all V-Print printing materials are ready for immediate use – without shaking up. In order to use these and more advantages of our own developed V-Print printing materials in a versatile way, VOCO cooperates with well-known printer manufacturers such as Rapid Shape, ASIGA, W2P and Ackuretta. Both the number of cooperations as well as the product portfolio of the V-Print family is expanded continuously – today by the Versus.

New: Microlay Versus

V-Print printing resins can already be used on a wide range of printers in the dental laboratory and clinic. A brand new addition to the list of partners is the company Microlay from Madrid, Spain with the dental 3D printer Versus, which was specially designed to meet the most demanding requirements for precision and reproducibility in dental laboratories and clinics. Here too, the settings for V-Print printing resins and the 3D printer Versus were developed and ideally adapted to each other in close cooperation between VOCO and Microlay.

VOCO Profluorid Varnish is ideally suited for the treatment of hypersensitive te VOCO Profluorid Varnish (VPV), the tried-and-tested dental desensitising varnish

10 years of Amaris – 10 years of perfect dental aesthetics

There is an ever-growing awareness of the importance of healthy and also attractive-looking teeth. Today, for many people, dental aesthetics are integral to a good quality of life. An increasing number of patients thus want non-visible, natural-looking high-end restorations, particularly in the anterior region. This trend goes hand-in-hand with a rise in demand for high-performance restoration materials. Such materials are not only expected to boast impressive physical properties but also, and in particular, outstanding handling. Amaris, which was presented by VOCO in 2007 at the IDS, is a composite with an innovative shade system which was specially developed for highly aesthetic restorations. This product ensures incredibly simple and convenient shade management for all users, whereby only a few shades are required. Amaris has won numerous awards, including from the renowned US testing institute, “The Dental Advisor”, due, in particular, to its shade concept.

11 shades instead of 33

Together, dentine and enamel define the overall appearance of the tooth. The Amaris shade system is also based on this natural principle. The most varied forms, shades and surfaces can be modelled quickly using a two-layer technique requiring just a base shade (Opaque) and an enamel shade (Translucent). Compared to other systems with more than 20 or, indeed, 30 shades, the Amaris system is made up of just 11 shades: Six base shades (O1, O2, O3, O4, O5, O Bleach), three enamel shades (Neutral, TN; Light, TL; Dark, TD) and two individual shades (Amaris Flow High Translucent, HT; Amaris Flow High Opaque, HO). The base and enamel shades can be combined in a variety of ways and thus ensure a high degree of flexibility when producing shades. The optional individual shades, Amaris Flow HT (High Translucent) and Amaris Flow HO (High Opaque), also allow further individual structures and special accents to be realised. HT is ideal, for example, for creating highly translucent incisal edges and HO for covering discoloured areas.

The core is firstly built up using an opaque base shade. A covering layer of translucent enamel shade is then applied; with an optimal shade appearance, Amaris Translucent Neutral (TN) is used. If the shade appears to be too light, the covering layer is darkened using Amaris Translucent Dark (TD). If the shade appears too dark, Amaris Translucent Light (TL) is used. The final tooth shade can thus be achieved during layering; corrections, however, are still possible during restoration. To this end, any layers which were applied beforehand do not have to be removed. Despite their relative small number compared to other systems, the many possible combinations of the base and enamel shades included with this product enable the entire dentally relevant shade spectrum to be covered. This means that even the finest of nuances can be produced for successful restorations every time.

Natural teeth as the yardstick

The developers of Amaris were committed to achieving the closest possible alignment to the natural tooth. Dr Reinhard Maletz, Head of the Research and Development Department notes: “The Amaris concept is based on natural layering and shading and not on pre-set industrial standards. With Amaris, seamless shade transitions and harmonious adaptation to the surrounding dental hard tissue can be realised. The interplay between opacity and translucence in restorations produced using Amaris is based on natural teeth and thus an outstanding degree of light dynamics and fluorescence is guaranteed. Consequently they cannot be distinguished from natural teeth.”

Excellent physical parameters

Amaris also has excellent physical properties. The material has a high filler content (80% by weight) with just minimal polymerisation shrinkage (2.0% by volume). With its high surface hardness (99 MHV) and compressive strength (375 MPa), its great flexural strength (120 MPa) and diametral tensile strength (51 MPa) as well as its outstanding abrasion resistance (48 µm, 3-media abrasion) and low degree of water solubility (< 1 µg/mm3), Amaris is a guarantee for permanently stable restorations. Primarily conceived for the anterior region, thanks to its physical properties it is also suitable for the posterior region. Amaris can be used for a wide range of applications. The indications include aesthetic anterior region restorations of Classes III, IV and V, aesthetic posterior region restoration of Classes I, II and V, the reconstruction of traumatically damaged anterior teeth, direct and indirect composite veneers, the veneering of discoloured anterior teeth, form and shade corrections to improve aesthetics, the repair of highly aesthetic ceramic (e.g., facet repairs) as well as the splinting of anterior teeth.

Optimal handling properties

In addition to its innovative shade system, Amaris also impresses with its optimal handling properties. The material has a non-sticky, silky consistency and can be easily adapted and sculpted. Amaris allows very thin layers to be applied and finished, which means that even the finest of incisal edges can be created. The ambient and surgical light resistance of up to five minutes provides sufficient time for working, however, depending on the shade and layer thickness, the curing times range between just ten and forty seconds. Given its intelligent material composition, Amaris can be easily polished which, in turn, means a great and durable shine is ensured. The material can be used universally with all dentine adhesives.

Commercial forms with introductory set

Amaris is available in a variety of commercial forms, e.g., in sets and refills with syringes and caps. VOCO offers an introductory set to allow consumers to get to know this intelligent shade system. This set features four caps in the opaque shades O1, O2, O3, O4, O5 and in the translucent shades Light (TL), Neutral (TN) and Dark (TD). The set additionally comprises two syringes with the individual shades HT and HO as well as the Amaris shade guide. Amaris can be ideally combined with Amaris Gingiva, the highly aesthetic restorative material in gingival shades. As such, perfect results can be achieved where red-white aesthetics are indicated.
