Perfect solutions for the modern, digital, and challenging field of dentistry – these are the goals of the dentalists from the far North, and of the experts in 3D manufacturing from Heimsheim in southern Germany. VOCO and Rapid Shape are now combining their expertise and entering into a partnership in order to offer both VOCO and Rapid Shape customers the highest degree of flexibility in selecting their working materials. As part of this collaboration, 3D printing materials from VOCO and printers from Rapid Shape will be attuned to one another so they can work together ideally and offer optimal printing results.

“In response to high and consistent demands for quality and innovative power, VOCO and Rapid Shape have been pursuing similar values. Rapid Shape is thus an ideal partner to expand and drive forward our strengths in the area of 3D printing materials”, states Olaf Sauerbier, Managing Partner of VOCO GmbH in Cuxhaven.

For more than three decades, VOCO has been known as an all-around dental research company for its competence in the area of light-curing composites for restorative dentistry. VOCO has been applying this knowledge and experience into the digital dentistry segment for the past few years, and in this respect has established numerous products worldwide successfully. These include, in particular, the 3D printing materials of the V-Print family of products, as well as subtractive manufacturing materials such as Grandio blocs and Structur CAD. All 3D printing products are developed at VOCO headquarters in Cuxhaven by an interdisciplinary research team composed of dental technicians, dental engineers, and chemists, along the digital process chain – this guarantees the highest level of user friendliness and practical applicability.

VOCO printing materials are now also certified for Rapid Shape 3D printers.

In a first release, V-Print splint, V-Print SG and V-Print model are available immediately for a variety of Rapid Shape 3D printers of the second and third generations, such as the D20+ and D30+ as well as D20 II, D30 II and D40 II.

A detailed list of Rapid Shape printers and V-Print material compatibilities can be found at www.voco.dental/3dprintingpartners

  • V-Print splint as a Class IIa medical device for the manufacture of transparent splints with high flexibility.
  • V-Print SG is used for dimensionally-stable, autoclavable drilling templates for implantology. V-Print SG is also approved as a Class IIa medical device and is thus indicated for direct wound contact.
  • V-Print model is a material used for fabrication of dental models with a high scratch resistance. It is suitable for thermoforming technology and remains dimensionally accurate despite heat input during thermoforming.

V-Print printing materials by VOCO offer practical advantages. Aside from the properties mentioned above, all V-Print printing materials are also sedimentation-stable. This means that there is no sedimentation of fillers or dyes in the bottle or, more importantly, during the printing process. The V-Print materials bottle should not be shaken before use of the resin. This prevents the formation of air bubbles in the material and allows for unmonitored printing overnight. The printing process proceeds safely from the first to the last layer and the final product properties are achieved in a reproducible manner. All V-Print printing materials can be post-cured without the use of protective gas.

“Thanks to our open system we offer our customers the flexibility to select the right materials for their applications. With VOCO, we have a high-quality material partner on our side who expands and brings added value to the Rapid Shape materials portfolio”, explains Andreas Schultheiss, CEO of Rapid Shape. “We are excited about the joint development work with VOCO, with which we can make available a greater number of validated V-Print materials for our 3D printers.”
